H.M.S. Orlando, with Admiral Bridge, will shortly make a visit to the various colonies. She is expected to leave here abonb a fortnight hence, her route being Melbonrne. Adelaide, Albany, Hpbarb, and then New Zealand.

With reference to the Seweli process of p&ckfog batter the saving of freight is not as much as appears at first sight. Tbe butter is placed in equate oases, then pat into kecrs, so that there Is a clear apsoe on all sides, and these spaces being filled with brine, owiDg to the rotundity of the kegs take up much more room, in addition to which they are only partially filled. The batter experts consider that at the outside tbe process will not save more than ii 3d per cwt, and even this amonnt will probably be eaten op by tbe coat of tbe kegs, which will be more than for ordinary babter boxes.

A gentleman named Hal 1 , recently deceased, after making a few legacies, left tbe bn'.k of bh estate to establish a consumptive borne far tberespeotable poor.

A shift of men la the Seaham mine declined to work to-day and joined tbe other strikers. It is believed the Unionlets have rejected the delegate Board's resolution, and each lodge will Bettle its own difficulty. The Hetton miners were also oondouined for their hasty action ia accepting the terms of the management. It is understood that within the next few daya two companies, eaoh working under the same conditions as the Hetton colliery, will give notice of tbeir intention to reduce the price for hewlrg to a similar level to tbat now paid In the Hetton mine. *—•
