VICTORIA.
Melbourne, Tuesday, The eight men left on the barque Nowfield were got ashore snfely. Those drowned include Captain Scott, the boatswain, steward, the sailtnaker, and five seamen. Several bodies have been recovered. The catnslrophe occurred through the captain mistaking Nelson's light for King.- Island. Several acts of bravery nre recorded in tho work of rescue. It Is understood that the cargo Is insured In a New Zealand office. Sir Andrew Clarke has been appointed Agent -General in Mr Monro's absence. Tbe Railway Commissioners have derided not to be represented nt the St. Petersburg Railway Conference. Great precautions are being taken against the cholera.
