Wanganui, Thursday.

There was beautiful weather again to-day for the Becond day's racing of the ' Wanganui Jockey Club'sautumn meeting, and the attendance was equal to that of yesterday. The racing throughout was of an interesting nature, and the finishes in the Wanganui Stakes and the Nursery Handicaps were very exciting. Thackeray sorely tried the patience of the starter in the Derby and the Autumn Handicap, and although the horse was eventually induced to join the Geld be ran unkindly In both races. The largest dividend of the meeting was paid in the Hack Race on Waihi, by Cost Off, who cut out six ' furlongs in lmln 17Jeec, which is only half a second slower than Retina's time in the Flying Handicap yesterday. There was £4836 passed through the totalizators to-day, makiug £10,300 for the two days, which is £2171 more than the lost summer meeting,

WANGANUI DERBY, Of 200 soya, added to a sweep of 10 soys for starters; 1J mile. Mr J. D. Ormond'n Queen of Tramps, Bst 61b (Stowe) 1 Mr \V. Douglas' Kapo, Bstslb (Morrigan) 2 Mr J. Hrett'e Wayland, Set 101 b (Clifford) 3 —Thackeray (Bst 101 b) also b tar ted. Queen of Trumps was the favorite. Tbackeray was fractions, and refusing to join the iield, delayed the start for half an hour, but when the Hag fell he bad three lengths the best of it, with Queen of Trumps next, Kapo last. Ah they approached the straight Clifford took up the running, and led past the stand ]ÜBt clear -of the favorite, with Thackeray next. Rounding the bottom turn Qneen of Trumps went up to the leader, and at thn back of the course secured the lead, Kapo at the same time passing Wayland. Sentinel led over the first! jump, tbe others being in a bnncb, bnt roandinc the top turn Chemist Bailed away with the lead, followed by The Peer, who was three lengths aheadof Sentinel. Passing the stand tbe second time Sentinel, The Peer, and Chemist were racing together five lengths from Koromiko, who was just clear of Waterfall. This order was maintained to the back stretch, when Sentinel again went to the front, Chemist dropping away fourth, and Koromiko running up third, Sentinel entered the straight with six lengths' lead of Tbe Peer, and never again being extended, won with a lot in hand by two lengths, Koromiko a fair third, Chemist fourth, and Waterfall last. Whisper was an even money favorite, 5 to 2 agst Dudu. Whisper was the first to move, but after going a few strides Clifford steadied her, and Loch Ness took up the running, followed by Bay King threo lengths off; then came Dudu and Whisper together. Favored with a light weight Loch Ness cut out the running at a great pace, and passing the stand had three lengths' lead of Bay King, Dudu next, and Whisper whipping in. This order was maintained to the back of the course, whore Bay King raced up to Loch Ness, and tho pair I went ou four leugths ahead of Dudu, Whisper still last. Sweeping round the bend approaching tho straight the downfall of the favoiitc wiw loudly proclaimed, but Clifford began to improve her position, and as the horses turned ior home she was alongside of Dudu, who was at the heels of the leaders. The quartette ran locked together till within a hundred yards of homa, when it appeared as if Dudu wonld again win, but Clifford gave Whisper one cut with the whip, and responding gamely she won by a neck from Dudu, who was a length in front of Loch Ness, Bay King an excellent fourth. After a few minutes' delay the field were despatched to a fair start, from which Rosefeldt took the lead, bnt was joined by Cretonne in a few yards, and the pair raced to the turn, a couple of lengths in front of Fraternitd. Fortune came very fast by the bush, and was in the front division as the straight was entered, with Fraternitd last. When

fairly in the straight M'Cormlck sent Fraternitd along, and a hundred yards from home was on terms with Roseteldt, who was just clear of Cretonne. In the last few strides Fraternity drew out, and won by three-quarters of a length, Cretonne a good third. Time, lmm 19sec. Dividend, £5 10?.

Urmond's Queen of Trumps, 69t 51b (Ross) 2 Mr Q, Hunter's Cynisca, Oat 21b (Clifford) 3 — Weka (78t 101 b), Kiekie (Gat lllb), Thackeray (Ost Sib), Montrose(Ost 71b), and Lady Webster (fist) also ran. Bonlanger was an oven money favorite, 5 to 1 agßt Cynisca. Half an hour was lost through Thackeray again refusing to face the etartcr. Eventually the field were sent away to a straggling start. The colors of Boulanger and Oynisca were the most prominent, but passing the stand Weka was taking the field along, Boulaneer second, and Queen of Trumps third, Oynisca last. Entering the back stretch Weka was still leading, while Queen of Trumps had displaced lioulanger from second position, and Cynisca was several lengths away. Hounding the bend into the straight Weka gave place to Queen of Trumps, who also was passed by Bonlanger as the straight was reached, with Cynisca making up ground very fast. Half way up the straight Bonlanger had everything beaten, and won somewhat easily by a length and a half from Queen of Trumps, Cynisca easing off third, Weka fourth, and Lady Webster last.
