, (The Editor does not hold himself responsible I for opinions expressed by correspondents.) , HAKD CHEESE. , Sib, — On Saturday next twenty-six men will •be discharged from the Railway Department. There is an old saying " Blow his eyes who ever tries to rob a poor man of his beer," and I say a blow on the nose of him who proposes to rob poor men of their Christinas holidays, and if the Minister for Public Works does his duty to those men he will pay them for ! Christmas day— to which they are justly ' entitled — and give a free pass to eSoh man to enable him to go to pastures new. In making the above statements and suggestions, I don't wish to blame the Government in particular, but those wouldbe youthful colonial railway experts, whose knowledge of railway mattters is so insignificant and small, that the most powerful microscope could not discern anything good in their suggestions. Hence I say, " Swing on old pendulum," andunay the time soon arrive when we shall see men handling the reins of railway affairs, and not every Jack and Gill's sons.— l am, &c, Jack's Father.
