VICTORIA.
(Received December 1, 2.40 p.m ) Melbourne, Thursday. The Premiers of Victoria, South Australia, and Queensland are conferring relative to renaming New South Wales. It is probable that a joint protest ag.unst the proposed new name for that colony will be sent to Sir Henry Pavkes. The police force in the Garanmt district has been largely strengthened on account of the action of the Unionist shearers. (RecoiYed December 2, 0.50 tun.) Mr Gillies, Premier of Victoria, lias written to Sir Henry Parkes, Premier of New South yVales, protesting ou behalf ot Victoria, South Australia, and Queensland against the proposal to change the name ot New South Wales to " Australia."
