The junior eleven of the Napier cricket club and the first eleven of the Chve cricket club will be the contesting teams. The following will represent the Napier C.C. :— H. Fannin, C. As yesterday was St. Andrew's Day the hankers had a holiday, and they combined with the lawyers to celebrate the occasion by playing a cricket match on the Recreation Ground, their opponents being the Hovers Cricket" Club. Some good cricket was shown on both sides, but the capitalists and their allies had to succumb to the Rovers, who won on the first innings by a few runs. A second innings was commenced, the losers on the first knocking up a good score before the stumps were drawn. The most complete preparations are now in course of progress in connection with tbe production of the " Sorcerer." Over 50 persons will be engaged in the production of the opera, including an orchestra of 23 performers. The mountings and appointments will be of the most finished kind, and iovers of opera may depend upon a really good musical exposition. Special arrangements have been made for the convenience of country visitors, and parcels of family tickets will be issued at rednced prices. Whoever is responsible for the billing is entitled to praise for the manner in which the work has been carried out. With reference to our report of the annual meeting of St. Paul's Church, we are informed that the Rev. J. Mountain made no charge whatever of "false doctrine " against the hymn book at present in use by the congregation. While speaking strongly in favor of the introduction of the new hymn and tune book, "Church Praise," he made no reference whatever to the doctrines of the old book, which, we understand, he stites are identically the same in both books. The error, we are informed, arose from the word "paucity," used by Mr Mountain in reference to the good tunes, being understood as " falsity." Our reporter regrets that he should thus unintentionally have misrepresented Mr Mountain. In response to a generally expressed wish Mr Leitch has decided to give one more production of "Harbor Lights" before extinguishing them for the season. To-night, which will afford the last opportunity of witnessing this stirring drama, the performance will he under the patronage of Captain Blythe, the officer commanding the district ; Captain Smith and the officers and members of the Naval Artillery, Captain M'Cartney, and the members of the F Battery, and Lieutenant Chicken and the Rifles. The officers and men of the garrison, headed by the Garrison Band, will march from the Spit to the theatre. During the third act Mill. Smith will appear in full Highland costume and treat the Britannic's crew to a sword dance. The Hawke's Bay Board of Rabbit Trustees met at Porangahau on Saturday, when there wore present Messrs H. Handyside (chairman), C. L. Mackersey, A. H. Price, and Thomas Crosse. The Commissioner of Crown Lands wrote stating that he had instructed Mr M'Cartie to extend the survey of the rabbit line. The inspector was authorised to engage a man for not more than three months to assist in cutting scrub on the fenced line. The Chairman- stated.-tbat Mr Martin had offered to re-erect the three end sections of the wall in cement for £14, including timber, but not cement. It was resolved to accept the oiler, and to order the necessary cement. The Chairman reported that Messrs St. F. Franklin commenced their fencing contract (four miles) on the 9th or November. It was resolved to call for tenders for carting fencing material for ten miles from Danevirke on to the line ; also for fencing the four miles now being cleared, and for clearing a further three miles. Accounts amounting to £452 5s lOd were passed for payment and the Board adjourned. ' The " thrice told tale" of "Harbor Lights" attracted another large audience to the Theatre Royal last evening. Mr Leitch and his company have evidently established themselves as prime favorites with the pluygoing public of Hawke's Buy, and t!io drama they are now producing appear* to gain in popularity with every repetition. Last night's audience was just as enthusiastic as that of Monday or Tuesday, and applause was unstinted. The production was perhaps the most successful so far, everything worked with absolute precision, and there was no hitch in any of the numerous scenes. Messrs Siduey, Leitch, Melville, Montgomery, Stanmaur, .and Marshall, and the Misses Norton and Bevan, were all called before the curtain. Tom Dossiter is as genial and rollicking as ever, David Kingsley still earns the sympathy of his audience, and the charm of Dora, and the comec.y of the choleric Mrs Chudleigli are tnore'highly appreciated on each fresh appearance. The squad which goes through the cutlass drill on the deck of the " Britannic " has improved greatly, and last night performed their part in a much more seamanly style. A word may also bo said for the efficient orchestra, which has much to do during the production, and especially for Mr M'Cornish, the well-known Auckland bandmaster.
