The captain, with a majority of the crew, got away in one boat, and tho second boat was in charge of Fraser, the SJif-riiniite. The captain's hoc.t was first to shore, but the mate's boat was yXvtossed on the beach by tho heavy surf, ?»;;4;",and in it were the semi-conscious forms of °f the crew, an Englishman' and a js{-j "~: Scotchman, named Davis and Drtunmond. i^P -The mate, who was in the boat, had just ;ftv« '.■ breathed his last. Davis and Drmninond f <K.i;. recovered, and gave an account of their p::j:,'gufiferings during tne short time that had *\® elapsed- since they had abandoned their K*y ''vessel. • While making their way to shore Vjfc -:tue boat was capsized and all the occurS?";,j- pants were thrown into the water. Some ;.,%;<of: -the men managed to cling to the up- ■!.'<•? j:^turned craft, which afterwards righted. i;i, ! -While making for the shore the boat was *i v " ; '.'•-. capsized no less than seven times, until 'I -■ V there were only three men left— the mate, !iv- '• Davis, and Drummond. The water was ''■■I- intensely cold. Davis and Drummond .:'r~ saw their comrades drown, but could not f- " afford them the slightest aid.
