[BY TELEGRAPH.] Dunedin, Wednesday. The lirst day of the Dunedin Jockey Club's spring meeting was favored with excellent weather, and the day being observed as a general holiday there was a large attendance. From a good start Effigy WC nt to the front, but went round the second hurdle leaving Garibaldi and Dunluce in the vnn. The two raced together, nothing else being able to get near them. Garibaldi always had the best of it, and although Dunluce came with a great rush in the last half-mile Mr Daldy's horse easily shook him off. and^von easily with a lot in hand by two lengths, Trapper third. At the start Kimberley went to the front, and though Spriu<?ston came up and kept on terms with him it was only on suflrance, as the favorite won with a good bit in hand by a neck, Le Temps a bad third. Time, 2mia 20sec. Dividends, £2 3s 6d and £2 ss. ST. ANDREW'S HANDICAP, Of 250 sovsj with a sweepstake of 5 soya ; the second horse to receive 40 soys, and the third 20 soys ; 1J mile. Mr Sherwin's r g Quibble, 9st 71b (Derritt) 1 Mr Stead's b h Beresford, Bst (Huxtable) 2 Mr R. From a good start the running was taken up by Quibble, Ravenscraig, and Beresford, and in that order they passed the stand, with Brewer and Rnby close up. Rounding the turn Quibble drew away by two lengths ; Beresford, Ruby, and St. Clnir being neck and neck. They could never catch Quibble, who won by three lengths. A slashing race took place for second money, Beresford just beating Ravenscraig, St. Clair fourth, Rnby fifth. Time, 2min 4sec. Dividends, £9 and £10 0s 6d. The Trot, of 80sovs, 3 miles, was won by Mr Keet's Reefer (60sec), with Dolly (55sec) second, and Folly (Susec) third. Fifteen others started. Dividends, £4 and £4 2s. The Selling Race, of SO soys, 1| mile, was reduced to a match between Sweetbriar, who won, and Daisy. Time, 3miu 2sec. Dividends, £1 10s and £1 12s 6d. SPRING HANDICAP, Of 75 soys ; 1 mile. Mr Webb's Ruby, Sst olb (Derritt ... 1 Mr Goodman's Apropos,'Sst 31b (Price) 2 Mr G. M'Lean's St. Ives, 7st 51b (Buddicombe) " —First Lord, Chic, Kimberley, Camerine, Fairy Maid, and Wildrake also ran. St. Ives was the tavorite. From a bad start Wildrake got the lead, but the others were in fair order, St Ives heading First Lord and Fairy Maid. At the quarter mile the pace was too much for -Fairy Maid, and Jiere Apropos went up to the leaders. First Lord was next done with, and Ruby took a prominent position. She came with a great rush in the straight, and bent Apropos by three lengths, St. Ives a fair third, Camerine and Fairy Maid being next. Time, lniin SGJsec. "Dividends, £3 17s 6d and £4 Bs. The Post Stakes, of 20 soys, was won by Sweetbriar from six others, paying £2 6s Bd and £2 14s dividends. The sum of £5443 was put through the machines.
