(Received August 18, 10 p.m.) LONDON', August 17, The Antwerp wool sales opened today. The tone of the market is fjuiet. Prices are a penny lower than the closing rates of last auctions. (deceived August 111, 1.15 a.m.) August 18. The drought which has prevailed for some time past has broken up, torrents of rain having fallen throughout ths country. Yesterday a tremendous thunderstorm was experienced in London and many other places. Lord Kosebery yesterday addressed a meeting of manufacturers and others at Manchester with a view to promote the Melbourne Exhibition. His Lordship said it was difficult to overrate the advantages which adequate representation would hi ing to British trade, and expressed a hope that the Exhibition would assist the fostering of art in the colonies.
