Morgan Daly, a member of the l'ermanent Force at Port Caullev, was drowned in the harbor this morning at 1 o'clock. He was a young man, and on late leave, which expired at midnight. It is believed he fell asleep on Queen-street wharf, and rolled into the water. A live occurred in High-street this morning in the harness factory of Jaraes Haig and Isaac Hill. The file was got under before the building was burnt down, but the stock and fittings wore destroyed. Incendiarism is strongly suspecled. Insurance — Hill's stock, £50 in the Standard office ; Haig's stock, £200 iv the Standard oflice. The building was owned by Mr E. J3ell, and insured for £•200 in the New Zealand office. The s.s. Macgrocor was towed into Manukau harbor at 9 o'clock this morning by the Staffa, having been picked up by the latter on Monday night at 11 o'clock. The football match, Canterbury v. Auckland, which took place to-day at Potter's paddock, Epsom, resulted in a draw. Frances, the Canterbury captain, kicked a goal from the field, while Whiteside, Elliot, and Conway, secured each a try for Auckland. The new method of scoring was adopted, and a goal counted three points and a try one point. The weather was beautifully line, and 8000 people were present. The game was fast and loughly contested.
