From the Manga-atua Committee, recommending Airs Cower as mistress. — The Secretary said lie understood that Mrs Cower had no certilicate, nor any experience in public school teaching, except a year in a Wangamii school some years n«o. —It wns agreed to appoint Mrs (lower, subject to her obtaining a certificate. From the Alatawhero Committee, requesting the Hoard to reconsider its decision not to make a grant for outhouses, and asking for a cupboard and other conveniences at the Slakaini school. — No funds for outhouses; conveniences to be. supplied. From Matamau, inquiring as to the legality of the election of the committee. — The Secretary explained that as the school was only a subsidised one no committee was required under the Act. From the Napier Committee, recommending that salary be paid, to Aliss AT. .Springs' for her services as; temporary assistant mistress. — Agreed to. J''rom the same, asking for apparatus (o illustrate scientific lectures'. — Tl/e Secretary said that no school in New Zealand wns so well - equioped with apparatus as that of Napier.— Particulars of what was wanted to be supplied. From tlia Orinoml Committee, relative to the occupancy of a portion of the school grounds. It appeared that the grounds covered live acres. The late committee oilered the use of three acres to anyone who would fence it, the occupancy t» continue during the will of the committee. The new committee bad determined to resume occupation: and the tenant, Air Parsons, objected,— Committee to bo left to deal with the matter. From the Takapau Committee, applying for appaiatus ; also £ 2(i for fencing. — The Secretary said £25 bad been passed for fenein". Apparatus to be provided ; committee to find cost of fencing in excess of grant. From the Te Karaka Committee, asking for £25 towards cost of erecting teacher's residence, the committee finding the timber and part of cost of erection. — The Secretary said the committee had provided tlie school building, ilic only expenditure by the Board being C2O. The master wns now paid £'2o a year as houseallowance.—Grant to be made. From the Waipiikurau Committee, asking that the date of examination bo deferred in consequence of an outbreak of measles. — Agreed to. From Mr J. T. l^arge, enclosing a definition of "householder" adopted by the Auckland Hoard, and suggesting that the Government should be asked to give an authoritative interpretation. The Auckland Hoard decided that "householder" meant "every adult male residing in the ilistricl.' I—Tiie1 — Tiie Koard took no action in the matter. From the Wallingford Committee, asking for new blinds. — Committee to find them. From the Waerengaliiku Committee, asking that £(>, the amount saved on recent contracts there, should be granted for metalling a road to the school. — > Agreed to. From the same, applying for the appointment of a pupil-teacher.— Committee to recommend one. From the YVairoa Committee, notifying the resignation of Airs irammond, nee (ioodison. — Accepted. From Air 11. 11. Wall, I'pper Patntahi, asking for tlte formation of a school district_there, and offering half the cost of providing a building. There were 23 children in the district, wliicli was ten miles from any school. —Further particulars to be furnished. From the Patntahi Committee, applying for apparatus .and funds for improvements to the school-grounds.- -Apparatus to be supplied ; ,t!."> granted for separation of conveniences. From the Ormond Committee, applying for tho erection of a teacher's residence, and for new outoMiee-%- -No funds for residence : C 4 voted for conveniences. From the Wairoa Commiltoe, asking that an assistant master .should be appointed instead of an assistant mistress. — The secretary said, singularly enough, only two male (oaehers had applied for the position. Their applications had been sent to the committee. E. Feigusson, pupil-teacher, Napier side school ; Airs Uower, mistress, Alaiinga-atua (subject to passing examination). The architect presented a report covering correspondence relative to the erection of the new school at Tologa Buy. The clerk of works reported that the matters complained of liad not been made good, and the architect recommended that the Hoard take over the contract unless the bad work was made good in ten days. — The report was adopted.
