ORMONDVILLE.

(I'ROM OUR OWN UOKIIESI'ONBENT.) April 13, 1887. The members ot the local school committee gave theiv vote in favor of Mr "Wildinjj for the vacant seat on the Education Board.

At tho monthly meeting of the Oruiondvill.e Magistrate's Court, hold to-day, liefocc Mv G. A. Preece, a number of civil caseawere dea.lt with, the majority Wng suits by the rate collector of the Town Board against defaultingratepayers. Some amusement was created by the defendant in- a judgment summons (Petersen v. Wegner) attempting to dispute a claim for which ' judgment had been siven at a former sitting of the Court. Judgment was given in the case of tho Queen v. Skinner, which bad been adjourned from last month in order to test the strength of tho ! beer 'sold by defendant as horehound. beef, and which had been found to be of the strength of ordinary wait beer, a fine of £2, with costs 7s, being inflicted on the ' seller. - The greater part of the day was taken up with the hearing of the petition filed against tho election of five members of the Norsewood ■ licensing committee, the groundsof complaint being " that there was no list of persons qualilied to vote posted up in either polling booth, and ■that owing to the way in which tho rolls liad been compiled about twenty ratepayers had been prevented from voting whose hnmes appeared on 'the rolls used within the licensing district. Mr F. OB.. Loughnan . appeared in support of the -petition,- and called a number of witnesses to prove the justness of the complaiut, concluding with an eloquent address to the Court. Mr R. Harding (chairman of the committee),' in addressing the Court, /said, that' the members of the present committee 'took but little interest in the" matter of the ' petition, for tho reason that if the ' election should bo declared .void tho same men would be elected again. In fact, the more light was thrown on the question at issue the stronger would be their support, but when he. came to consider what an expense \vduid,be entailed oil the country by a fresh 'election he decided .to appear iii answer to .the petition. Ho would respectfully submit that there was not one tittle of 'evidence before the Court to prove that the petition had been filed within the' time' required by the Act, or that the election had; been held at all. After some argument his' Worship decided / that with regard to the time in which a petition , should be filed after an election he considered fourteen clear days was the meaning of the Act, or sixteen days, including the day of election and the day of filing; 'the petition was therefore in time. On the question of proof of the election having been held, he must decide against the petitioners, Mr HaTding's contention being so far correct. No proof had been put forward that the election had actually been held ; he would therefore dismiss the petition. Mr A. Herbert's "London circus" opened here this evening to a' very fair house, although a <jcnt\e vain had been falling all the afternoon and evening. In one very important particular the company went far beyond any' cirens that has previously visited us — they did all that they had promised ' the public to do. The riding was the best ever seen here. The command exercised by Mr Orifon over his horses (without trappings) showed to what a perfect pitch of training he has brought them, while the very clever feats of Signor Bartello, who is a prince among contortionists, took the house by storm. The tumbling and trapeze business was quite up to the nsual mark, and the band deserve a word of praise for the manner in which the musical part of the entertainment was carried out.
