THE CASE OF MR TANKARD.

Sir, — I scarcely know how to characterise tlie conduct of the company with whom Jlr Tankard insured against accident. They contracted to pay at the rate of £5 per week in caso of accident, and received the premium professedly witli that payment iv view, while nt the same time they must have known that Mr Tankard's wages could not have been at the rate of £6 or £7 per week according to trade rates. Of course Mr Tankard insured well knowing that in sickness the necossary expenses must exceed those incurred during good health, and therefore he insured for £5 per week. Nevertheless the company have the downright meanness not to pay ; in full. If they did not intend to pay Mr i Tankard the £.Jpcr week agreed upon, then they should not have received his money in the first instance, and the refusing to pay him in accordance with their i implied agreement is such excessively j sharp practice that I should much like i to see the case tried, and in tlie meantime i will have nothing to do with accident in- i surance.— l am, Sc., i K. 1 August 27, 1886. <
