THE WOODVILLE SCHOOL BUILDINGS.

I Sib, — I Bee that in reply to my last Mr I Lamb has adopted the old lawyer style, I "No case, therefore abuse the other side." He states that I am an unmitigated ass to suppose that he is bound to repeat, &c, the mistakes which exist in our school buildings aim ply because they do exist. I nevf-r said I supposed aiy such rubbish. What I said was that the imperfections aud nondescript appearance have been seen since the enlargement of the school, and not before. He states that the additions harmonise with the general outline of the old buildings. I stated, and state again, that they did not, and I named several contracts. Bat he states that the plans,

&c, were approved by the Board, Well, that might be so, but whilst the general appearances as on paper might pass muster, yet it Is in the detail appearance that some members object. Why, Captain Bussell is a member of the Board, and yet at its last meeting he expressed hia disapproval of the Hastings school, and I know he did the same wilh respect to the Woodville school. I wonder bow it is that Mr Lamb did not find out' that the gallant captain was an unmitigated ass as well a poor bnshman I lam very sorry thus to tread on the corns of the architect, but in his reply he might have shown where I was wrong instead of showing such an outburst of temper, forgetting that he is supposed to be an architect and a gentleman. As to my not know- I ing anything about what I was writing — well, it seems I knew enough to raise his ire. I have seen other buildings enlarged before these school buildings in our advancing township — we have had a good few enlargements. We have at least one building larger than the school which has been built at three different times, and had three architects, yet it is a perfect whole. As to my right to interfere, I claim the right of paymaster. I am a large ratepayer, and these schools come out of my pockets, as we have to pay the interest on loans from which they are built. Then again, I have been connected with Hawke's Bay school matters many years before the present architect got hia appointment. I have also a good number of children attending the school, and am also interested lin the growth of Woodville. I should like all our public buildings to be so enlarged that we might feel proud of them. Therefore I think I have a right to express my opinion of them without being described as yelping about things Ido not understand. One thing I do understand — asses do not yelp any more than lambs bray.— l am, &c, Bushman.
