THOSE CRUISERS.
Sib, — I saw in your yesterday s paper that I made a declaration before H.M. Customs to the effect of not having seen any cruisers or foreign vessels on my passage from Newcastle to Napier. Allow me to say that I have made no auch declaration ; it would be beyond my power to do. I have met several vessels and steamers coming, and I cannot see how I would know who or what they were without going on board each and overhauling their papers, which I do not think they would be likely to allow me to do. I think if Tom, Dick, or Harry came on board my vesseL to overhaul my papers I should certainly tell them to go to the and mind their own business. Certainly, a suspicious -looking vessel would easily be known, even at a long distance, and I would, instead of hailing her, give her a wide berth, if there was any wind about.— l am, &c,
J. P. Ballb, Master of the Frank Guy. Port Ahuriri, April 18.
