The Court of Appeal has confirmed the sentence of four months' imprisonment passed in April last upon Edmund Yatefy proprietor of the World newspaper, for libel on Earl Lonsdale. (Received January 20, 0.55 a.m.) January 19. Ivfustapha Pasha Fehmi, the Egyptian Minister of Finance, arrived yesterday. It has transpired that in their replies to_ the proposals of the French GovernmeU^; for the settlement of the EgyptianT financial difficulty, Austria, Russia and Germany, formally expressed thoir approval of the scheme and their willingness to endorse the views of the French Ministry. It was suggested also that the British Government should eventually convene a farther conference of the Grea"t Powers, with the view of making some arrangement whereby the absolute freedom of the Suez Canal may be established and guaranteed on a basis satisfactory to the Powers.
