MR KINROSS'S LIBERALITY.

Sir,— You will doubtless agree with me in saying that of the many opponents to the Bluff harbor scheme none have been so misrepresented as Mr Kinross. He has been described as being selfinterested and pigheaded, and innumerable epithetß have been hurled at him without compunotion on the part of his assailants. Now, sir, never was there a greater mistake made, for I believe, if I had the time at my disposal, I could convince even Mr Kinross' s most bitter antagonist that that gentleman is one of the most liberal-minded men to be found within a radius of fifty miles of Napier. The very fact of Mr Kinross having invested a considerable amount of capital in lighters for the safe conveyance of merchandise to and from vessels anchored in our roadstead shows the great interest he takes in the welfare of the community. Is it not quite natural, therefore, that he should feel keenly the treatment he is receiving at the hands of those very men whom he has served long and faithfully and for whom he has sacrificed so much 1 Again, when the first and subsequent steamers visited onr port consigned to his care the liberal manner in which Mr Kinross feasted and feted his numerous frienda on board deserves to be suitably recognised. I am convinced that the least the importers of Napier could do to show their thorough appreciation of the many benefits they have received at the hands of Mr Kinross would be to immediately cable to their respective agents in London advising them to ship to this port only by such vessels as are consigned to the care of the gentleman referred to. When 50 much interest is shown iv the progress and future prosperity of a community as is the case with MrKinrosß and his relations in Hawke's Bay it behoves that community to uphold and strengthen the hands of those men who from singleness of purpose and disinterested motives work for the common weal. — I am, &c, Coup de Geach. Napier, 17th January, 1885.
