mO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN WHAT AUSTRALIANS THINK OF IT. INDIGENOUS ENDORSEMENTS. (Copiod from the Evening News, Sydney, October 24th, 1883.) It's a remarkable fact that at present, while nine out of every ninety-nine persons in this colony are busy arguing the pros and cons of the new Land Bill, the remaining ninety are sure to be found discussing the merits of that wonderful remedy, St. Jacobs Oil. Eminent divines, Supreme Court judges, legislators, journalists, merchants, and athletes have '" gone for " this remarkable medicament with the rnoßt marvellous unanimity ; and the rest of the town and country residents have chimed in with voices of approval. Having heard of some extraordinary cures effected in Sydney by this household panacea, the reporter decided to investigate the matter and to obtain the personal experiences of several citizens. He first called upon A LARGE MERCANTILE FIRM. In the well-known eoloseal warehouses of Messrs Hoff uun and Co., the importers, in Pitt-etreet, St. Jacob* til is regarded as a sovereign specific by numbers of the employes. Mr J. R. Drowett, the popular town buyer for this enterprising firm, says that a few applications of St. Jacobs Oil completely subdued the excruciating pains caused by rheumatic gout. He loots upon St. Jacobs Oil as the remedy for all kinds of aches and pain?, and has adeis^d all hia personal friends to trj ifc. Mr William lovering, another employe", arrived at the warehouse one morniog lati-ly in a serious state of health. This gentleman is favorably known to our commercial community, having been connected with the firm of Messrs S. Hoffnung and Co. for fifteen years. He cheerfully declared that lie had used St. Jacobs Oil with the greatest success in his family for all kinds of aches and ailments. Consequently he regards it as the premier liniment. And, above all, that prominent citizen, Mr David Marke, the resident managing partner of Messrs Hoffnung and Co., from his own knowledge and experience, was able to give the most emphatic endorsement of the grand and unrivalled curative properties of St. Jacobs Oil. He said that his firm received an order from a country constituent for a case of St. Jacobs Oil ; half a dozen bottles which he had purchased previously having effected wonderful cures among his friends who had been "down" with rheumatics and neuralgia. This countryman significantly adds that he doesn't know any better present to make to his friends than a bottle of St. Jacobs Oil, A SPIRITED MAN OF BUSINESS. The Press representative then waited upon Mr 3f. A. Little, the enterprising und energetic manager of the American Kovelty Company, 201 Pitt-street, whera " notions " and nicknacks of all sorts, Ehapes and sizes can be bought at astound ingly low priec'J, and where the latest novelties from the older Continents can be inspected by wondering city or country cousins at all times and seasons. Mr Little willingly certified that his wife and his mother-in-law had been entirely cured of severe and painful rheumatic disorders by the use of St. Jacobs Oil. Its remarkable ar.d almost miraculous properties were also gladly acknowledged by a large number of Mr Little's acquaintances. A REGULAR WALKING ADVERTISEMENT. The scribe next repaired to York-street, where he was confronted with further convincing proof of the popularity of St. Jacobs Oil. Mr Walter Haynei?, manager for Mr A. Or. Church wood, the old ■ established wholesale coffee, pepper, and epice merchant, 147 York street, was afflicted so severely with rheumatic lumbago tli it he couldn t rise from his chair. The reporter had heard so much on all sides, not only from his cricketing, footballing, 'cycling, and soulling friend?, but ulso from hia brother Pressmen, in praise of St. Jacobß Oil, that he determined to get an opinion on the subject from Mr Michael M'Girr, ono of the proprietors of the Freeman's Journal, 163 York-street. That gentleman testified to some astonishing cures which to his own knowledge had been accomplished by St. Jacobs Oil in the up-country districts ; and he also referred to his own case. He said that he lately suffered such acute agony from soreness and inflammation in the toes of his right foot that he had to leave hit office and go home to bed. He applied St. Jacobs Oil, and after rubbing the purt briokly for about 10 minute 3he obtained relief. Next morning he again applied the oil, and he has since been free from pain. Mr M'Girr winds up by asseverating that, having been a sceptic, ho has now become a firm believer in the efficacy of good St. Jacob. AN OLD SALT. Adjoining the Freeman's Journal offics is Mr Beattie's hotel, the Gardeners' Arms, whore an old man-o'war's man, named Bon Barnfield was interviewed. He gladly narrated, in simple but touching language, how he got rid of! an excruciating rheumatic affection in his legs by the use of St. Jacobß Oil. He is now able to walk with extraordinary ease, and his tongue wags as glibly as ever. A GREAT COLONIAL HOUSE. Mr William Edward Wilaon, of Messrs R. Towns and Co., one of tbe leading shipping and mercantile firms in the colony, says that a friend of his, an eminent citizen, believes firmly ia St. Jacobs Oil, and employs it in his household for various complaints. Mr Wilson is never without a bottle of the oil in his own home, and declares that it cured the wife of Messrs R. Towns and Co.'s storekeeper, who was afflicted with rheumatism. It may be mentioned that the Hon. Alexander Btewarf-, M.L.A., Prime Minister and Colonial Secretary of New South Wales, is a partner in the firm of R. Towns and Co. ANOTHER TYPE OF COMPLAINT. The very remarkable curative properties of St. Jacobs Oil in the wide range of painful ailments requiring external treatment are so firmly established that it is now regarded all the world over as positively the best, safest, and cheapest pain-cure of the age. Mr W. O. Shirley, who has charge of the type and printing press department in the prosperous house of Messrs Cowan and Co., importers of stationery and printers' maserial", Wynyard square, informed the reporter that be had suffered severely frora a pain over the right eye, extending baokward to the neck. Ho was advised to try Bt. Jacobs Oil, which, sooth to say, entirely removed the affection complained of. Mr Shirley implicitly believes that the übo of the oil has saved him from very serious consequences. A PROMINENT SQUATTER giving his views on the same subject. Mr Alfred Hay, of Boomanoomana, a highly accomplished gentleman, and one of the most successful breeders of sheep in the Murray district of New South Wales, is enthusiastic in his encomium of St. Jacobs Oil. He always keeps a supply of it at his station, and the success which it enjoys in America, where he has seen it in general use, very properly convinces him that it will be quite • a boon and a blessing in the Australian bush. ' Other graziers and agriculturists heartily j endorse Mr Hay's statements and are unanimous in. declaring that St. Jacobs Oil is the ! favourite and sovereign remedy in the rural districts of this young but rising continent. ; "THEY CALL HIM DOCTOR.' Mr H G. Rowell, the popular proprietor ; of the Great Western Hotel at Katoomba, is '■ one of the most steadfast believers in St. Jacobs Oil, and is untiring in recommending 4 it lor numerous distressing complaints. He toldthe reporter of several wonderful cures in his district, and he adverts particularly to the case of a prominent official in the service 4 of the Government of New South Wales.
