( Received January 16, 9.55 p.m.) I London, January 15. >43? he arrivals to date for the next series of wfl&l sales now amount to 180,000 bales. The total probable quantity to be offered is 220,000 bales. (Received January 17, 0.50 a.m.) January 16. In the course of an address at a meeting of the Empire Club last night Sir Saul Samuel, Agent-General in London for JSew South Wales, expressed the opinion that federation was a delusion. He deprecated the formation of fleets of war vessels by individual colonies, and declared that the Imperial Government ought to undertake the maritime defence of the colonies, the latter paying the cost of their naval protection. The Homeward mails via San Francisco, dated Auckland December 9th, were delivered yesterday.
