MARLBOROUGH RACES. Second Day. [by telegraph.] Blenheim, Thursday. The weather for the races to-day was very fine. The attendance was good. The following are the results of the various ; events :,—

HURDLE HANDICAP, 11 Of 50 SOYS. v Mr A. M'ColPs Orient (Freeth) . 1 y Mr J. Kobinson's Liability (Herd) ... 2 f Mr H. H. Dodson's Bob (Cheeseman) 3 , —Dick, Wheel of Fortune, and Black . Doctor also ran. l All the acceptors faced the starter, and were soon got away to a good start, Liability leading past the stand. All 3 jumped the first hurdle but Wheel of } Fortune, who fell and got rid of her f rider. Orient took the lead, the five I running well together" and taking their . jumps in good style. Dick fell at the third hurdle, getting away likewise from , his rider. Orient was still leading, with ; Liability and Bob close up. Opposite > the stand all four took the hurdle to- > gether. On entering the straight the > whip was used on all, Orient just winning i by a bare length from Liability, Bob half i a length behind. The totalisator had 102 investors of £1, 48 on Orient ; dividend, £1 18s 6d. Collat, the rider of Wheel of Fortune, received a nasty cut behind the ear, and was much bruised about the face. RACING CLUB HANDICAP, Of 100 soys ; distance l^mile. Mr C. Redwood's Refrigerator, 3yrs, 7st7lb(Kedwood) 1 Mr J. Robinson's Hero, aged, 7st lllb (Hem) 2 Mr A. Hathorn's Comet, Bst 3 — Maori, Bob, and Manfred did not accept, j The three got away to a good start. Hero was first to show in front, but all passed the stand abreast. Comet then fell slightly behind. Opposite the stand they were all together agaiD. On entering the straight for home Hero was leading, but the whips were then brought out on all, Refrigerator winning on the post by a head, Hero second, Comet half a length behind. Time, 2min 39|sec. Refrigerator was made a hot favorite, but Hero and Comet had a good few supporters. This was one oB the grandest races ever run on the course, and the handicappers deserve all praise for the way the three horses were brought together, the favorite just being able to win. Old Hero never ran a better horse in his life than he did in this event, the time being remarkably good. The totalisator had 290 investors of £1, 184 on Refrigerator, 57 on Hero, 49 on Comet ; dividend, £1 19s. HACK HACE, Of 10 soys ; distance f mile. Mr Fenwick's Jack 1 Mr Sotherley's Waitohi ... 2 Mustard .3 The totalisator had 169 investors, 42 on Jack, 33 on Waitohi, 82 on Usurper, and 12 on Mustard j dividend, £3 1 2s. BLENHEIM PLATE, A welter handicap for a piece of plate, added to tbe amount accruing from the nominations and acceptances ; distance, l£ mile. Mr A. Matheson' s Rore ... 1 Mr G. Riley's Artful Joe ... 2 Mr H. Schroder's Kate Kelly 3 • — Manfred and Liability also ran. Sir George and Black Doctor did not accept. The horses were got away to a good start, Kate Kelly being first to show in front, Artful Joe second. They ran in close order to the straight, when the ' whips were brought out on the whole ; field, Rore winning by two lengths. The totalisator had 98 investors, 17 on Liability, 24 on Rore, 10 on Artful Joe, 3 on Kate Kelly, and 54 on Manfred ; dividend, £3 18s. CONSOLATION HANDICAP, Of 30 SOYS. Wheel of Fortune, 7st 81b 1 Hero, Bst 71b 2 Comet, Bst 51b ... 3 — Five others started. This was a desperate race between the three placed horses, Wheel of Fortune winning on the post by a bare head, half a length separating Hero from Comet. The totalisator had 202 investors ; dividend, £4 Bs. FORCED HANDICAP. Sir George, 9st 91b 1 Refrigerator, Bst 31b 2 Rore, 7et lib 3 — Notice of Motion, Manfred, and Jack also started. Sir George was declared to win. Rore maintained the lead to the straight, when he was challenged by Sir George and Refrigerator, Sir George winning by a bare nose, Rore within a neck. The totalisator had 163 investors, 56 on the winner ; dividend, £2 Pis. Over £2300 was put through the totalisator in the two days.
