HOADLEY, LYON k CO., ; 256 Auctioneers. . —^ ANNUAL SALE OF SHOW STOCK. COTSWOLD RAMS. I FRIDAY, OCTOBER 12, 1883, i (Day after the Show), \ At 2.30 p.m. I hoadleyTlyon &co. < Have received instructions from G. D. Hamilton, Esq., to oll'er by public auction, on the Show Ground, Hastings, on above date — IQ PUEE-BKED COTSWOLD -»-•?-* RAM HOGGETS. These rams havo been bred up fram carefully selected Game stock, imported at considerable expense by Mr Hamilton in 1873, nnd will be exhibited at the Agricultural and Pastoral Society's Annual Show on the 10th and llth October next. At last year's show Mr Hamilton's Cotswolds were the source of much interest, owing to their great size for their age. It is claimed by the advocates of this breed that it is not only hardier than other class of long-woolled sheep, but that it arrives at maturity much sooner than tho Lincoln and Leicester. In view of the large export of frozen mutton, earlier maturity will in future receive more attention than it has done in the past. Hitherto our sheep have been bred almost exclusively for their wool, but if the frozen meat trade puts a permanent value on mutton the carcase will naturally receive more attention, and if it be found that a cross between a Cotswold and merino gives earlier maturity, large carcases with good quality of mutton, and good clips of saleable wool, coupled with the great point of hardiness, we shall in a few years see most of onr hill flocks a orossbred between the Cotswold and the merino. Also, from the same flock, 5 IMPROVED COTSWOLD RAM HOGGETS, Whioh will likewise be shown. HOADLEY, LYON k CO.. 183 Auctioneers. ANNUAL SALE OF SHOW STOCK. LINCOLN RAMS.
