Future meeting, will be held at Mr Kelly's hotel. Votes of thnnks to the chairman and secretary, to whose energy the club owes its present high position, terminated the proceedings. What a noble game is cricket ! I have loved it well and long, but most when it abounds in what the French call contrertonq." And though " fine play " I like to see, I'm more pleased to be by, when bowler with unerring aim hits batsman in the eye ; or when the latter, smarting from a whop upon some joint, sends a " hot 'un " from his bat to the " tnmmy " of poor "point." I love the game of cricket, and to no man will I yMd, in the en erg v with which I watch the acttve fielders field ; and it tickles me immensely when, impelled by fate -unkind, one slips up and falls backwards upon his — (never mind). I muoh admire the batsmen as they run and puff and strive, from a ball that's good for four runs to extract a number five ; and when close pressed by fielding they, urged on by "stump" alarms, run desperately and erringly into each other's arms. And when a batsman's reckless swipe lays his own wicket low, I rub ray hands and laugh and say, "Oh, here's a funny go !" And as the heroes leave the field wh^n the fierce fight is o'er, then do I wish each wounded one diachylon galore. Vet though in a crack club like ours no slips like these there be, in schnappi I drink the toast " Success to the H. 8.0. C0." < To prevent misapprehension I think; it well to state that the concluding observations are not extracted from the club minutes.
