CRICKET.

Ciyjl Sekvick v. Banks,

A match between these two elevens was played at Petane on Saturday last, and resulted in an easy victory for tho Civil Service meu, The Banks team were the first to show at the wicket, and a very poor show they made. One or two of the team shaped as if they had handled a bat before and were out of practice, but the majority did not appear to know the rudiments of the game. The straight bowling of Mountier and Praia made sad liavoc with the sticks, tho latter taking throe wickets with three consecutive balls. The ten wickets fell for nine runs, six only being got off the bat. The Civil Servants in their first innings made 42, Pram heading the lot with 17. In their second innings the Banks were a little more fortunate, and succeeded in putting together 2G, leaving the Service victors in one innings by 7 runs. Tlio bowling of Mountier and Pram was altogether too straight for any team out of practice, the former bowling in a form which on a good ground would place him probably as the most effective bowler in the district. The fielding of the Civil Service men was remarkably good, the team working well together. Pirani, in the very important post of long-stop did good service for his team.
