AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL SOCIETY.
.'A.- committee meeting of the Hawke's Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Society was held yesterday morning at the Criterion Hotel. Present — Messrs J. D. Ormond (chairman), F. Sutton, G-. Peacock, R. Wellwood, J. S. GibHn, J. Heslop, IT. Nelson, Thos. Farmer, W. Shrimpton, A. M'Hardy, J. Bennett, W. White, and J. Chambers, jnn. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. A letter was read from the hon. treasurer, Mr C. B. Winter, regretting his inability to attend the meeting, and suggesting certain financial arrangements, which were adopted by the committee. A letter was read from Colonel White, ciilling the attention of the committee to the spread of pleuro-pneumonia in the Auckland district, and suggesting that steps be taken to prevent the introduction of the disease overland. It was moved by Mr F. Nelson, seconded by Mr Tanner, and carried, " That in the opinion of this Society steps should be at once taken to move his Excellency the Governor to proclaim regulations which will enable the Hawke's Bay Cattle Board to provide against the importation of infected cattle overland."
It was moved by Mr Peacock, seconded *■ by Mr Nelson, and carried, that the grazing of the Society's land be let for a term of three or five years, alternative tenders to be called for. A sub-committee, consisting of Messrs J. N. Williams, R. Farmer, F. iSelson, and T. Tanner, was appointed to settle what planting is desirable, and to arrange for planting a gorse hedge round the Society's ground. Messrs R. P. Williams, J. R. Elliott, John, Bennett,. R. Wellwood, J. Heslop, add* , White were appointed a subcommittee to draw up a programme and appoint judges and "stewards for the annual. ploughing match, grain and root exhibition, and draught foal show, to be held on the 19th May.
