Extract from the " Empire." — " The eminent firm of Kirkman and Son was founded about 1730 by Jacob Kirkman, who worked with Schudi in the service of one ' Tabel,' a harpsichord maker. Kirkman and Schudi subsequently each set up a business for himself. Schudi afterwards took into partnership John Broadwood, a young Scotch Carj>entcr, by whom the celebrated firm of John Broadwood and Son was founded.
