Supplies of the castor oil bean have been supplied by the Castor Oil Company to the natives of Raglan, Aotea, and Kawhia, to induce them to engage in the industry. Stephen Boreham, Harry Redchuket, John Skerry, William Jacobson, and Godfrey Gabrielson were charged at the Police Court to-day with stealing a quantity of champagne, brandy, and French prunes, the property of James Hill, master of the barque Anazi, by broaching cargo on the 21st of November. SubInspector Pardy, in asking for a remand, said that on the barque Anazi arriving in the harbor that morning it became knovvn that the men had broached the cargo. There was powder stored on board, and it was providential that the ship was not destroyed. The prisoners were remanded until the Ist of December. Chkistchurch, Saturday. At a large sale to-day of canaries recently imported from Germany, prices ranged from 15 to 16 shillings each. At Messrs Wilkins' wool rooms, there was being exhibited to-day a case of merino ewes fleeces which is to be sent to the Sydney Exhibition. Three little boys, brothers, whose ages averaged under ten years, were found guilty this morning at the Police Court on five charges of larceny from shopkeepers, and sentenced to three days' imprisonment with a dozen stripes of the cat-o-nine-tails. At a meeting of the Licensed Victuallers' Association.last evening a motion was carried that the increased duty of two shillings a gallon on proof spirits proposed by the Government was excessive, and that a duty of one shilling a gallon would meet the requirements. The secretary was instructed to correspond with kindred Associations with the view of obtaining co-operation in securing a reduction in the proposed duty. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the delegates who attended the conference at Wellington. The New Catholic Church at Oxford will be consecrated to-morrow by Bishop Redwood* Dunedin, Saturday. McLean's Juvenile Troubadours were prevented from playing their " Hash" introducing the " Pinafore" music, in consequence of legal proceedings being taken against them. The cargo was landed, when the steamer having been ascertained to have received but little damage she was launched from the rocks and steamed up Evans Bay to the slip. Meanwhile the Hinemoa had been despatched to the assistance of the desabled steamer, but on reaching the scene of the disaster she found that the Tui was quite safe. Little damage has been done to the steamer, which is owned by Messrs Kebbell, Seager, & Co., and is insured for £4000. She is now on the slip and all necessary repairs will be completed in a fortnight. : New Plymouth, Sunday. The Eangatira's machinery broke down while on her way to Wanganui, and she had to put back for repairs. She leaves again this evening.
