He is by the celebrated iinjorled trotting sire nftdef, out of a first -class. Victorian steeplechase mare. He was purchased at a high figure ,by his present proprietor at the sale of Samuel Gardiner, .VSsq.'s, Bendoora Park, Victoria, in 1878, and was the highest-priced trotting stallion there sold. From the published pedigree of hit, sire it will be seen that he possesses the best trotting blood in tho world. SERENADER was a beautiful bvown without white, 15 hands 3 inches liigh, with strength to carry 16 Btone, and in quality and (Style wa6 a sliortleggcd. liuhtiJi'j and probably one of the finest goorS in Englaud, being cocky, easy, and free. He was bred by John Birkbcck, Esq., of Threapland Hall, near Skipton. He was got by the Devonshire Trotting Rainbow, by Agar's Rainbow, clam ~oy Heart of Oak. Devonshire Rainbow was the sire of tho following trotting etallions : — -Tempest, Rainbow, Battler, Morrylegs (winner of 37 prizes), President (winner of 12 prizes), Kenovator (winner of Champion Frize Cup at Kirktham, in 1566, and was second at the Great Yorkshire, at York, same year, 34 competitors). Sereliadar's dam by St. Bennett (for his performance, &c, see t»tud Book), grand dam by the far-famed Norfolk Phenomenon, which was ixndoubtedly acknowledged to be the fastest trotting stallion England ever produced j he was by the Norfolk Cob, for which J. Tlieobald, Esq., of tU-ockwell Surrey, gave 1000 guineas ; he was by Ivirkby's Wildfire, who beat Mr Slade's celebrated black mare, over Svinbury Common, for 400 guineas. Sercnader himself was the winner of the following prizes : — ln 1860, at Skipton, Yorkshire, first prize as a yearling ; IS6B, silver medal at Skipton, first at Keighley, and first at Bingley ; in 1869, first at Accrington, fh-st at Skipton, first at Keighley, first at Bingley (nine competitors), first sit Allerton (1.3 competitors), first at Driglington, also at Adwalton; in 1870, he took prizes at Queensbury, Halifax, Great Hovton, Allerton, Keighley, and Bingley ; in 1871, at Keighley and Skipton ; and in 1572, at Skipton, Keighley, and Bingley, always beating numbers of the same class ; in 1873 he took tln'eo prizes, including the great Yorksliire Trotting Stallion Prize, open to England, France, and America, for the stallion best calculated to improve the breed of trotting horses, held at Harrowgate (17 competing), August 1 33 th ;ho there beat Mr Cowton's Lord Stanley, winner of the Hoyal Prize, at Hull, in 1873 ; also first at Islington and Alexandra Park, held in London tho same year. At Melbourne he was exhibited three times, and took honors on each occasion. SERENADER'S DOUBLE is limited to 4J approved mares at six guineas each. N.B. — Serenlder's Double was the winner as a two-year-old of a special prize at the National Agricultural Show, Melbourne, in 1878. Vi UNG DUGDALI. This colt, rising 4 years old, and standing lGi hands high, is a beautiful dappled bay with black points, possessing grand hair, with splendid bone and temper. He is by Mr Canning's imported horse Dugdale, dam Gipsy, imported from Warrriambool. He is thoroughly staunch and a sure foal getter, having served several of his owner's mares last season. Tkbms — For single mares, four guineas ; for two or more marcs the property of one owner, £3 10s each. GENERAL TOM .THUMB, a pure-bred Shetland pony, imported from Victoria by present owner, is descended from the purest Shetland breed, will serve mares at £2 10s each. KING DICK, by Serenader, dam Hepburn's celebrated Victorian trotting mare, a bright bay colt, rising 3 years old, will run with a few approved mares. Terms, £4 4s each. N.B. — Well-grassed and watered paddocks found gratis until due notice of stinting is given, after which 2s 6d per head per week will be charged. Every care taken, but no responsility incurred. HONEST TOM will run with a limited number of marcs this season at Mr George Merritt's Paddocks, at Farndon. Honest Tom is now rising five years old, standing 16 hands lin., by Little John out of Young Diamond, one of the largest pvizetakers in Tasmania, Auckland, and Hawke's Buy, and never was beaten. Young Diamond out of Old Diamond, pure Clydesdale marc, by the celebrated Clydesdale Entire Iron Duke. Iron Duke and Old Diamond both imported to Tasmania by Duncan Campbell, Esq.,' and aT prize-t.'.kers were never beaten. Vide New Zealand Stud Book. For symmetry and muscular development they are unequalled. Young Diamond, four yeara old, was imported to Auckland by G. P Donnelly, Esq., carrying a foal to one of the best horses in Tasmania; said foal has been also a large prize taker in Auckland, and never was beaten. Young Diamond !was sold at the Meanee about seven years ago by public auction for the sum of 155 guineas to tho late E. A. Carlyon, Esq., from whom Mr George Merritt purchased Honest Tom when nine months old, Young Diamond, the dam, dying when he was only two weeks old, he being therefore brought up by hand. Honest Tom has been serving mares for the last two seasons, and is a sure foal getter, having run and served 53 mares last season, all of which proved in foal to him. He is considered to be one of tho grandest and most compact horses •in New Zealand. He is a dark bay with four white points, standing on four short well set legs, bone in proportion. He has magnificent loin and tarrell, being well ribbed up, and in all points a perfect rnodol of symmetry. Honest Tom when two years old took the first prizo at the Hawke's Bay Agricultural Show.
