CANTERBURY OOLLEG SCHOOL OP AGRICULTURE SCHOLARSHIPS. AN Examination will be held on Dec. 8 next at Auckland, Napier, Wellington, Nev/ Plymouth, Nelson, Christchurch, Dunedin, luvercargill, and such other places as may be determined upon, of candidates desirous of competing for the above scholarships. The scholarships are six (6) in number, of the estimated value of sixty-iive pounds (£65) per annum. Two (2) are tenable for three (3) years, two (2) for two (2) years, and two (2) for one (1) year, are open to candidates from all parts of New Zealand, and entitle the holders to board, lodging, and instruction at the School of Agriculture, Lincoln, near Christchurch. Candidates must be between the ages of sixteen (1C) and nineteen (19) years. The following are the subjects of examina- j tioa : — COMPULSORY SUBJECTS— EK6LTSH. — An Essay on some easily understood subject, general questions on Kty- I mology. Grammar, . and the use of words. A- Paper on Shakspeare, Henry j IV., paTts 1 and 2. Mathematics. — Arithmetic, Algebra to simple equations (inclusive), Euclid, first four books and sixth (Plane) Trigonometry to solution of triangles (inclusive), and logarithms. Science. — Elements of Inorganic Chemistry, Elementary Kxperimental Physics, Elementary Physical Geography, Elementary .Natural History. OPTIONAL SUBJECTS— Any two of which may be selected by the Candidates. Latjx — Translations of easy passages at sight, questions on Grammar, Paper on Horace, Odes, B<jok IV. Orv.ek. — As in Latin, Euripides Alcestis. Fkencjt. — As in Latin, Racine's Andromaquo. <seeman. — As in Latin, Schiller's Wilhelm Toll. Ej>gusu History, — Prom the accession of William 111. to the Crimean war. Conditional on the papers being satisfactory to the Examiners, the three years' Scholarships will he awarded to the two i candidates who stand first snd second on the result list, those standing third and fourth securing the .tyro years' Scholarships, the one-year Scholarships falling to the candidates occupying the fifth and sixth places. All Scholorshipi will be tenable only during good behaviour and observation of such regulations as may from time to time bo made, and on the successful passing of such "'periodical examinations at the school as may be determined upon. , .
