O the Crown for the same purposes and objects, and Bubject to the Bame powers and conditions as those for and subject to which it was formerly held by the Superintendent of the Province. It was ordered that the letter stand over with the view of obtaining more information on the subject if possible; • TENDERS. ; ' The tender of Mr John Whelan.'for -" metalling the Petane-road at 2s 5d per cubic yard, was accepted. * \ ' '" The tender of Mr F. A. Parker, for fencing work in the Taradale road at £l ; 19s per chain was accepted. PAPAKURA ROAD DISTRICT. Mr Williams presented a petition from the Wardens of the Papakura Road Dis- , trict, praying that the portions of the Pakowai and Papakura roads within the " Papakura Road District be constituted a ) county road. -rfr"""X The petition was received, and -"Mr ' Williams gave notice to^move : on. the .next T sitting day that, the petition be considered. REPORT OF OVERSEER OF ROADS. " ' '|0 ... DRAIN AT TARADALE. ;,.■.' A letter was read from the overseer of roads, recommending that a drain running through Mr Dowd's property at Taradale be opened up. It was decided that - the, work be dpne provided the cost did not exceed £12, V-'-s - NAPIER-TAUPO ROAD.. , ' ; '^ ;.:;"*•" Mr Torr moved, pursuant to" notice,', "That this CouncU do take oVer;tlie^ Napier-Taupo road as a county road," , , ,[ Mr Tanner seconded the motion. „..,;, Mr Bennett moved as an amendment, " That the road from the Spit to opposite Mr Tuxford's corner at Petane be declared a county road." Mr Rymer seconded the amendment. The Council divided on the amendment. Ayes, 3 — Messrs Bennett, Rymer, and Sutton. Noes, 4 — Messrs Tanner, Williams, Kinross, and Torr.
