Ho fired his revolver and wounded i one of his assailants, but he was struck ' on the head and killed on the beach ; three natives, who composed the crew, were literally hacked to pieces, and only . a lad escaped. A man named William Bartlott has been arrested for shooting with intent and threatening to kill one Donald Gillander, at Mahia, on July 5. The prisoner is 64 years old. The political excitement is going up to fever heat. A requisition is going round the town asking Mr J. Buchanan to stand at the coming election. Mr Manoy, the County Chairman, lias con.sentcd to ataud, and a requisition to him is being numerously signed. He will doubtless get a block vote, and tho hope of all the electors here is that ho and Mr Buchanan will go in at the head of the poll.
