THE LATE MR NATHAN CLOSE.
Speaking of the death of Mr Nathan Close (of the firm of Close Brothers, Auckland, and brother of Mr J. Close, of the firm of Neal and Close, Napier) the Auckland Weekly News of the 3rd inst. says : — " His sudden and unexpected decease on Monday morning created a feeling of sorrow aud surprise. Mr Close had contracted a cold during tho past week, but paid little attention to it, supervising the details of his business up to a late hour on Saturday night. On Sunday morning ho began to feel worse, and medical aid was called in. Dr Dawson was speedily in attendance, and subsequently Dr. Bayntum, but medical skill was unavailing, and he succumbed on Monday morning, twenty-four hours after the fatal seizure. The deceased's brother is at present in Napier, conducting the operations of the firm's branch business there, and the sorrowful tidings have been communicated to him. Mr Close was highly esteemed by a large circle of friends for his probity of character and kindliness of disposition, and his sudden demise will be a source of general regret. His life was insured by a policy of £500 in the Australian Mutual Provident Society. The funeral took place on Wednesday, from the late residence of the deceased gentleman, in Ponsonby, at 3 o'clock, and was one of the largest funeral processions which have taken place in Auckland for some time past. There wore between twenty aud thirty carriages, besides 300 mourners on foot. On reaching the public cemetery, it was found that a large number of people had assembled there. The coffin was carried from the hearse by the young men recently in the employment of Mr Close, and all were very much affected with the sad duty they had to perform to their late employer.
