THE Board of the Education District of Hawke's Bay offers for competition Three Scholarships, each of the annual value of Thirty Pounds, and tenable for two years. The examination will be held in the late Provincial Council Chamber, Napier/ en July 24th and following days. The age, subjects of examination, and condition of holdership are given in the regulations stated below. It will be seen that Classes A. and 8., are. open to the boys and girls in the Hawke's Bay Education District and attending one of the District Schools under the Board, and Class 0., to the boys and girls of the Public and Private Schools in the District. - Intending candidates must forward their names to the Education Office on or before July 15th, stating age, the school they attend, and the class in which they desired to be examined. H. HILL, : Secretary. REGULATIONS of the Hawke's Bay Board of Education for the Examination for Scholarships. 1. Three scholarships will be offered for competition by the Hawke's Bay Education Board. 2. The Bcholarßhips will be each of the annual value of thirty pounds and tenable for two years. 3. They will be offered every alternate year or at such times as the Board may direct. 4. There will be three classes in which candidates for scholarships can compete, called respectively A. B.C. Class A will be for children who are under 12 years of age on July 10, Class B for children who are under 13 years on July 10, 1879. Class C for children who are under 14 years on July 10, 1879. 5. Olasses A and B will be open for competition to the boys and girls in the Hawke's Bay Education District, and attending one of the District Schools under the Board; and Clasß C to the boys and girls of the Public and Private Schools in the same District. . 6. The subjects for examination will be Reading, Writing, Spelling, Arithmetic, Grammar and Composition, Geogarphy and History. 7. Candidates for a scholarship mußt obtain 25 per cent, of the marks given for each subject, and at least 50 per cent, of the total marks attainable to become entitled to any claim whatever to a scholarship. 8. The holders of scholarships as a condition of receiving payment must satisfy the Board of Education that they have been regular in their attendance at school, and that their conduct and progress have been satisfactory. 163 HAVELOCK NURSERY.
