A 'requisition, addressed to the Mayor was r^ad, asking, him to take a poll for bringing the Public : Libraries Act into operation in Napier. la connection., with the requisition a letter was read from. Mr Fielder, in reply to the Town Clerk's request that the requisitionists should deposit £10 for the expenses of taking a. :poll. Mr Fielder's reply was to the effect that under the Public Libraries Act the expense of taking the poll was cast upon the Corporation. The ToWtl Clerk- stated that on receipt of Mr Fielder's letter he had telegraphed to Auckland asking upon whom devolved the expense of the poll lately taken there under the Public Libraries Act, and had received the following, reply : — "On the city, of course/" (Laughter.) ■ Cr. That Mrs Grant's application for the formation of a footpath in front of her new premises be authorised, conditionally that she will >pay half the cost. 6. That- the applic»tion of Mr J.
