THE RETORT COURTEOUS.
One day at the Cafe| Foy, one of the 1 leading notaries of Paris was criticising severely the conduct of Marshal Marmont, when a gentleman at an adjoining table, with a moustache like a ahoebrush, arose and cried :
" Sir-r-r, you shall account to me for those words." ' •
' ' Are you Marshal Marmont ? " " I have not that honor j but I am his senior aide-de-oamp." " Very well, sir ; my head clerk will meet you when and where you please.".
