A STAG IN THE DRAWING-ROOM,

A very curious incident in connection with hunting is reported from Mid-Kent. The stag-hounds of that district had met at Offham, and a hind had been enlarged at Father ton, and after some pottering about and a few sharp bursts, the ladies from the house of the Hon. E. V. Bligh, near Farthington, returned home with their friends to luncheon. Just after leaving the dining-room, a tremendous crash of glass, and what sounded like a general breakage, was heard ; and, to the intense amazement of all, it was found that the hunted hind had dashed clean through the dining-room windows, and was standing in front of a large sideboard opposite, which had a looking-glass at the back. In this she was gazing most earnestly at her own likeness, thinking, doubtless, that she had met a friend in similar distress to herself. In the meanwhile the hounds had come up, but were drawn off, and all the windows having been thrown open, gentle efforts were made to induce her to leave her place of refuge, no little fear being felt that in her terror she might effect among the furniture and ornaments a similar disarrangement to that which is credited to a bull in a china shop. However, as soon as her attention was diverted from her reflection in the mirror, she turned towards the window, and made her escape without doing any further damage.
