PROJECTED DEPARTURES.

Southern Cross, s.s., for Auckland Lady Bird, s.s., for Southern ports Go-Ahead, for Wellington. Beiult, s.s., for Wairoa Josephine, schooner, for Lyttelton. Mary Wadley, schooner, for Newcastle

' The s.s. Wanaka, Capfc. M'Gillivray, arrived in the bay yesterday morning at 10.40, and was at once tendered by the Bella and Sir Donald for cargo and passengers. The following is the Wanaka's report : — Leffc Dunedin at 1.15 p.m. on the 4th, arriving at Lyttelton at 11 a.m. on the sth ; left again at 9 p.m., arriving at Wellington at 1 p.m. on the 16th ; sailed again at 2.30 p.m. on the 7th, arriving in the roadstead as above. She experienced head winds to Lyttelton, and from thence to arrival favorable weather. The Wanaka left again last evening at 6.30 for the North. The s.b. Southera Cross, Captain Helander, arrived in the bay last evening at 7.15. The pilot was going out to her when our report left the Spit. The s.s. Sir Donald, Captain Watson, will discharge to-day ex Wanaka. The s.s. Ladybird, Captain Malcolm, is due here to-morrow morning from tho North, and leaves again at noon the same day for Wel- . lington. The s.B. Result is still on Mr North's slip. She is undergoing a thorough overhaul, &c. We observe that our local steamer the Clyde is determined to stick well to the place, and are glad to learn she is meeting with a good deal of encouragement. Few can estimate the good service the Clyde is doing by keeping up frequent communication with, this port, as every trip she makes demonstrates conclusively the fact that a brisk trade could be established here if the* Government improved the entrance, which would be an inducement to the settlers to go in strong for agricultural and other industries. With two such popular and painstaking officers as Capt. Petersen and Mr Light, the engineer, we have no doubt the Clyde will maintain the reputation she has already gained of being the most ■ comfortable and best appointed boat on the coast for her size. — Wairoa Free Press.
