FIRE BRIGADE COMPETITION.
Sir, — In reply to " Hose Keels" letter which appeared in Saturday morning's issue, I may inform him that "Shell Back'" is still alive and not likely to get - run over by him, although at the same time he and his branchmen have been trying their best to do so. There is not the least doubt that had the Spit Fire Brigade invited " Hose Reel's" services at the late competition, they might have got a little further to windward, he being such a lover of fair play (?) I am inclined to think that if the Napier Brigade, cannot get a better genius than " Hose Reel" to act for them they had bettej* drop the subject, as the public can see as well as the Spit Brigade that the former are afraid to come out like men and show what they can do before true and honest timekeepers, who will be appointed if they take up the challenge offered to them. I will now turn in. Shell Back, , March 16, 18?9. : ,
