WAIPAWA COUNTY COUNCIL.

(Abridobd from tub "Waipawa Maii.."} The Waipawa County Council held its monthly meeting last Friday morning. Present — Messrs. Johnston (Chairman), Dillon, Levy, Sowery, Rathbone, Maokersey, White, and LieutenantColonel Herrick. The resignation of the pound-keeper at Sherwood was accepted. The report of the County Engineer for the month of January was read as follows : — During the month an inspection has been made of the bridges on the 70-mile bush road. The bridges under contract are pro«reßsiug;theManuwatn bridga is reported complete; the Mangatewai-iti bridge and that at Mangatawainui are all but complete. There still remain several large bridges and numerous smaller stru«tures requiring renewal, and it is > respectfully urged that the balance of the money, viz. £3500, originally authorised for these works be applied for without delay. At Woodville a auction and specification have been prepared for forming a portion of the branoh road leading to one of the farm blocks. This work was authorised laßt year, and it is proposed to divide it into small contracts, and let it to local competitors. About forty chains of road formed on the Orm&ndville-road requires metalling ; the cost will be about £70, for wdich expenditure authority is reßpeotfully requested. On the road between Te Aute and Waipukurau nothing has been done during the month, but instructions have been given for the renewal of planking and repairs to two bridges, ;| respectively, at Kaikora creek and Silver Stream. Instructions have also been given for the renewal of a bridge on the Waipukurau-Tamumu road, destroyed lately by fire. The bridge on the WaipukurauOnga Onga road is complete, with the exception of the approaches, which on the occasion of last inspection were too narrow. The contractor has been instructed as to the work necessary to be done, on the completion of, which the final certificate will be given. The survey of the road deviation at this place has been made, and the alteration fixed with trig, survey, A map is now ready with full information ffor effecting the required land exchanges. The contract for road formation near Wanstead will take about two weeks to complete. On the Waipukurau -Wainui road the several works in hand are as follows :— Quarries have been opened near Pukukura on the property of the Hon. H. R. Russell, for the supply of metal required, in that locality.
