Rangatira, Captain Evans, sailed last evening for Poverty Bay, riie returns here on Wednesday morning and leaves at 11 a.m. the same day for Wellington. The last load of wool was taken off to the Glenlora yesterday, she will clear at the Customs to-day. The Unicn s.s. Hawea, Captain Kennedy, is due here this morning from the South. She has about 70ftons of cargo for this port, besides 150 rams. The Hawaa leaves again for the North this evening. Mr Watts, agent of the Union s.s. Company, received a telegram yesterday morning announcing the death of Mr R. Grant, purser of the Taupo, which steamer left Auckland yesterday, for Southern ports. We are sure that all those who knew Mr Grant will feel grieved at his sudden death, as a more gentlemanly and good-natured man there could not be, and we can also state without fear of contradiction that the Union Company have lost a good and faithful servant. The Admiral discharged her cargo yesterday, 01 Adamant. The Sir Donald will discharge to-day, ex same ship. The Mary Wadley will no doubt soon put in an appearance from Newcastle. She is laden with coals for J. H. Vautier, Esq. Both the Spit and Napier Fire Brigades are practising for the forthcoming competition, which takes place in March. The teams are composed of eight men from each Brigade, who will compete in hose reel, small and large manual engine drill. By all appearances both teams are well up to their work, and will prove strong rivals for each other.
