WILLIAM COLENSO, 411 Hon. Sec. and Treasurer. "TT I STORY OF mHBJ HBA," MR D. D. REID is in this district soliciting orders for " THE HISTORY OF THE SEA," Which will be ready for delivery in March or April— to be Cash on Delivery. "The History of the Sea," published by Messrs J. W. Lyon and Co., is a handsomely bound volume, well printed, on good paper, and illustrated by a considerable number of excellent woodcuts. At the request of Mr D. D. Reid, I have glanced through its contents, and can safely say that it is written in a very readable taking style. It should command a ready sale as a popular work for home reading and reference ; and is especially adapted . for young people, inasmuch as it contains much valuable information, and that certainly in no dry shape or form, DE BELIDT HOVELL, Incumbent of St. John's, Napier, N.Z. "The History of the Sea," by Dr. Goodrich, is in marked and favorable contrast to most works issued from "the American press —the printing and paper being of excellent quality, aud the illustrations, of which there is a profusion, are in good taste and well executed. Having looked through the book I can say that it abounds in well-told narratives of the sea. It is not what might be called ascientific treatise, bat a really popular and well sustained history of many of the most thrilling incidents, adventures, &c, of sea life, from Noah, the first shipbuilder and navigator, down to the events of our own day. Young people will iiud profit and enjoyment in it, and their graver seniors interest and pleasure during their leisure hours. Its illustrations render it very suitable for presentation. W. C. OLIVER, Minister of Trinity Church, Napier, The Rev. S. Chastagnon (Catholic Priest) authorises Mr Reid to state that he thinks well of the book entitled " The History of the Sea," and that he believes it to be a very instructive publication. "The History of the Sea," by Frank B. Goodrich, L.L.D., is a work which will be perused with advantage by all, and especially by the young. Tlie facts it deals with are fairly stated, and placed before the reader in graphic language. It may be preeminently described as a ." Book for the Family," and is deserving of commendation to all who have their residences in tlie Australasian Group of Colonies. D. BRUCE, Agent of the Presbyterian Church, 404 $dW Zealand.
