THE MUNICIPAL ELECTONS.

The declaration of the result of the poll was made at noon yesterday by the returning officer in the presence of a considerable number of citizens. The event proved exactly as had been anticipated, though itwas certainly by a narrow shave that Mr Ashtcm won success. The numbers' declared by the returning officer were as follows i— Ashton, Edward . . . . SJ2I Cohen, Hyman Phineas . . 127 Cornford, r Henry Arthur .. 357 ■■ Ellis, George . . . . 146 Miller, Matthew Robertson 220 ! , Rearden, John Aloysius . . 32 j -Messrs Oornford and Ashton were deolared duly elected. , ' Mr Ashton said he had to thank the burgesses for the position they had placed him in, which was, all the more gratifying because the result was contrary to his expectations. He could assure the burgesses that, he would do his best to serve the ( interests of all parts of the borough alike.
