SPIT FERRY.
Sir, — Would you kindly oblige by allow- M ing me to reply to a letter from " Weßtern - I Spit " in yesterday's Telegraph., '-j>, | In the first place, he accuses me of | falsehood, but fails to. prove it. If Ido -r^jf not mistake, I think I have heard hin\ .s', before. His style seems to be ao familial?'J||to me that lam certain {C I have seen him : .p • before. " I wonder if he prophesied that 'JlM the ferryman would not have the^ ferry rjjm three months. If he does not, it won't be im " Western Spit's " fault. It is a cowardly if? thing to grumble at the, ferrymen.. It is; : ;|| riot their fault that the late ferryman lost Jf his ferry, ■ but' those who lejb it andftook \fM the deposit. It is no use trying tcirgjill y«Jjj the public, and blame the innocejtt, be- Vlfjjl cause there were no, jpassenger&^or the coaches at 8 a.m. ''Western Spit '^wants to know about , the extraTboats. He can :i|l have proof that the boats were engaged the |f J i night beforeyand.the .men were backward 31 and forward from both sides before and fl after 6 a.m., and seeing the empty coaches |H and no sign of passengers, went to breakV;l« fa.B^ for 10 minutes. , You may call it false; gB but there is ample proof of the correctness ffl of this statement. . As for Major this uid;| reporter that complaining; you^neverjM heard a swagsman complaining, they hayef ||l more common sense. , . Jf it jhad been a [|B coach proprietor complaiaing, I woulAnotPß have thought so much of it ; but we{hew||M much about unsatisfactoryness, woula^B " Western Spit" be plain, and let usknow^M what he calls satisfactory? As -tJ||i||l viously stated— have stated -hours, same as a railway station ; there will th^^H be an understanding between passeDgera|^H and ferrymen. But man's inhumanity tbjpM man makes helpless thousands mourn, andfij " Western Spit " ought to be aahamed of S« himself to seek to injure his f ellow-man.|^ I It's an old saying— ■" Put a beggar oviWi horseback and he'll ride to Heaven"— 'mm where he will get I #FairPiay. mm Western Spit, January 7, 1879.
