FILTERS.
Sir, — I hear that the Corporation are about erecting filters at the reservoir for the filtration of the water before using. Before adopting a system of nitration, the best kind of filters ought to be obtained, otherwise it will be a waste of public money. If there are any persons in Napier who can throw out any suggestion in obtaining the best kind of filters, they would be conferring a great boon on the residents in Napier and the Spit. I have heard it rumored that Mr George Ellis was for some time in England engineer, and superintending the making and working of filters for the Admiralty on Dr. Normandy's most approved patent. I have heard that Mr Williams has made a filter on Dr. N. 's system, from plans provided by Mr Ellis, and it has been working for three years in Napier, I believe, giving every satisfaction. I hope these few hints will lead to some satisfactory system in making the water fit for domestic purposes. — I am, &c, A Resident.
