TO THE ELECTORS OF THE CLIVE RIDING. f] ENTLEMEN, —Having been nominated VX as a Candidate for the seat for the Clive Riding in the Hawke's Bay County Council, I beg to solicit the favor of your support at the polling booths on Saturday, the 4th May. I will do all in my power to secure equity in the County valuations, and to prevent the influence of private interests from interfering with public rights in regard to river conservation and other similar matters. Being a resident in your district, your interests and my own are in all respects identical. . Your late member, the Hon. Colonel Whitmore, has found it necessary to resign his seat owing to his being unable to attend to his county duties during a considerable part of the year. As it is universally anticipated that next session will be an exceedingly long one, I may be allowed to point out that the same objection applies to the election of any other member of the General Assembly to a seat in the Oounty Council. TO THE ELECTORS OF THE CLIVE RIDING. /"S ENTLEMEN,— I have the honor to VX solicit your support at the election on Saturday next, the 4th May. My views upon local matters are, I think, pretty well known. If returned, I shall endeavor, as I always have done, to see that local matters are attended to by local bodies, and that the ratepayers get the best possible return for the rates they pay. Until I saw Mr Orr's address this morning, I was not aware that my holding a seat in the House was any objection to my holding a seat in the Council. I thought, and probably you will agree with me, that the fact that I hold a seat in Parliament would make it more advisable that I should have practical experience of the working of the Counties Act. On the last occasion when I contested the seat with the Hon. Col. Whitmore, there was a public question upon which the election was decided, and scarcely three months had elapsed before the county found it necessary to adopt the course I advocated.
