The Wanaka, not leaving until 4 p.m., a goodly number of her Northern bound passengers availed themselves of the opportunity thus afforded of seeing Napier, and came ashore in the Bella. The launch took the passengers off at 4 p.m., and the Wanaka steamed North shortly afterwards. The s.s. Rangatira, Captain Evans, as we expected, encountered some very heavy weather on her trip to Poverty Bay, the capfcviii deeming it advisable, after rounding Portland Island, and when off Whangawhei to hove to for some considerable time. The weather clearing and the wind moderating, the Rangatira proceeded on her course, arriving m.Gisborne at 9 a.m. Saturday; left again in the evening for this, and arrived in the . roadstead at an early hour on Saturday inormng. The Bella took off the outward passengers at 11 o'clock sharp, and the Rangatira proceeded on her passage at 11.30 a.m. The s.s. Manaia, Captain Petersen, started for the Wairoa at midnight on Saturday, but she had hardly got over the bar when the engines came to a stand-still, which necessitated her to anchor. She was brought inside at 11 o'clock yesterday morning by the Bella, the latter vessel coming in from the Taupo. This is rather unfortuate, as the Manaia waa a full vessel. The schooner Columbia, Captain Conway, left for Poverty Bay at 9 o'clock yesterday morning, with a full cargo transhipped from the barque Adamant. The Bchooner Isabella Pratt, Captain Cross, was taken into the roadstead on Saturday morning, and being favored with a light, breeze, made sail shortly afterwards for Oamaru. The captain informs us that the bar at Mohaka is in a deplorable condition, he having had, after a sojourn in the river of fourteen days, to cut his way through. Should sufficient inducement offer, the cutter will again be placed on the berth for the same place. The s.s. Mohaka, Captain Baxter, successfully crossed the Mohaka bar early yesterday morning.
