DEPARTURES.

j?eDruary iu — itangatara, s.s., ior vveinngton.—Passengers — Miss Davis, Mesdames Smith and Martin, Messrs R. Stuart, H. Williams, Denton, Seymour, Master Williams, 3 steerage, and 1 original. February 10 — Wanaka, s.s., for Wellington and Southern ports. Passengers — Rev. B. Fraser, Miss Goudy, Mrs Taylor, Messrs Armstrong,.; Rogers, M 'Sweeney, J. M. Wood, Allen, and 35 original.

THE s.s. Wanaka, Captain M'Gillivray, left •the Bay of Islands at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, the sth instant, and arrived in Auckland next morning. Sailed again on Thursday, th« 7th instant, at 5.15 p.m., and arrived alongside the wharf at Tauranga at 8.30 ».m.< the next morning; proceeded again at 10 a.m., and anchored in Poverty Bay at 9.30 a.m. on Saturday, the 9th inst. She left the latter port at 5.40 p.m. the same day, and anchored in the roadstead at an early hour yesterday morning. She had : strong north-west winds and heavy beam sea across the Bay of Plenty, but fine weather the rest of the passage. The steam launch Bella proceeded for her inward passengers early in the morning, of which there were a large number, and at 10 sharp left Arith the outward passengers, and the Wanaka proceeded on her voyage at 10.30 a.m. We are indebted to Mr R. B. Pringle, the courteous purser of this boat, for the above report. ■■■': The s.s. Rangatira, Captain Evans, left for Wellington at 12.30 p.m. yesterday. She left Poverty Bay at a late hour on Saturday evening, the delay being caused by her having to take in a lot of grass seed and , potatoes for this port. The Bella, as usual, attended on her for passengers and cargo. Opinions were rife yesterday as to the respective steaming capabilities of the steamers Wanaka and Rangatira, now both ;on their way to Wellington. We have no doubt that they will do their utmost, and the quickest vessel gain the victory. Taking the average time occupied by these boats on former occasions to and from this port and Wellingtons, we do not think there will be more than a half hour's difference ba- '■ tween either. The Wanaka left exactly two hours previous to the Raagatira. The s.s. Pretty Jane arrived at the outer wharf at I p.m. yesterday from Auckland. She brings a miscellaneous cargo. She is advertised to. steam again for Auckland at noon to-day with a cargo of live stock, but • it is not expected that she will get away before to-mor i ow. The s.s. Result, Captain Baxter, is expected to leave for the Wairoa to-morrow.
