After the close of the match, in order to fill up time, a single innings match was played between the same teams, Wellington first taking the wickets. Kennedy and Horwood came forward to the bowling of Garrett and Spofforth. Blackham, who was wicket-keeper, let a ball from Garrett come to his face, and left the field.
