The s.s. Stornibird, a boat lately purchased by the N.Z.S.S. Company, accompanied the s.s. Rangatira from Castle Point to Welling-' ton on Thursday. The s.s. Rangatira left at 3 p.m. on Thursday and arrived in Wellington harbor at 2 a.m. on yesterday morning. The damage done was found to be of a trifling nature, and was quickly repaired. She leaves for this port this evening. The s.s. Southern Cross, Captain F. Holmes, arrived in the roadstead at 2.30 p.m. on Thursday last, and came inside to the breastwork at 8 a.m. yesterday. She steamed from Auckland harbor at 4.30 p.m. on Monday, and had comparatively, fine weather to East Cape. At 4.30 p.m. on Wednesday a heavy southerly gale springing up, she dropped her|anchor in Happy Jack's for shelter, and remained there until 4.25 a.m. the next day, at which hour she once more steered for Napier. From Happy Jacks to port she encountered strong heacL winds with a tremedous south-east sea. She leaves at 8 a.m. to-day for Wellington. At Wellington she will go on the slip to effect a few improvements, after which she will run regularly between this port and Auckland, she having taken a five months contract to convey sheep to that port. The following were passengers by her: — Messrs Schrewsbury, Trask, Hunt, White, Brown, Bee and Nailer. . The s.s Wanaka, arrives in the roadstead from Northern ports at an early hour this morning. She leaves again for Wellington and Southern ports at 10 a.m. to-day. The s.s. Kiwi successfully steamed out at 8 a.m. yesterday. She had a few tons of general cargo and a quantity of wool for Wellington. The p.s. Manaia leaves for Wairoa this evening. Captain Smith received a telegram from.that place yesterday, to the effect that the bar was good and sea smooth. The Manaia is loaded with a general cargo for that port. No signs of the s.s. Sir Donald were to be seen at the port up till a late hour yesterday evening. She left Wellington at 6 p.m. on the 27th,- and is thus making a very protracted, passage. It is thought that she may have a cargo for the coast, the discharge of which would account for her non-appear-ance.
