The s.s. Wanaka steamed for the North at 2 o'clock yesterday morning. The s.s. Rotorua arrived at 7 a.m. yesterday from the North, and left again for the South at 3 p.m. Pressure on our space compels us to hold over our report till Monday. The s.s. Rangatira left for Poverty Bay at 3 p.m. yesterday. The Wairoa steamers left early yesterday morning for that place. The C.G. s.s. Stella steamed into the bay from Portland Island at 7.30 a.m. yesterday. She made a splendid passage from Wellington to Portland Island, of 23 hours, when it is taken into consideration that she steamed against a heavy gale. She put into Napier for orders, and was ordered to the Chatham Islands though for what purpose we were unable to learn. Captain Bendall still commands her.
