Rangatira left for Poverty Bay at 3 p.m. yesterday. The Wairoa steamers left early yesterday morning for that place. The C.G. s.s. Stella steamed into the bay from Portland Island at 7.30 a.m. yesterday. She made a splendid passage from Wellington to Portland Island, of 23 hours, when it is taken into consideration that she steamed against a heavy gale.
