The Post of the 20th iiltimo contains the following graphic description of the delights of residence in the Empire City : — " This has been the darkest day seen in Wellington in the memory of ' the oldest inhabitant. ' So deep was the gloom even at midday that the gas had to be lighted in the banks, Resident Magistrate's Court, and nearly all the offices in town. Heavy rain fell continuously, but without any wind, and a thick haze prevailed, the day, in fact, but for the mild temperature, being the exact counterpart of many November days in London. What with the rain, the gloomy atmosphere, and the mud, water, and slush generally, the streets are as uncomfortable as well could be imagined,"
